SUPERSTRUCTURE OF RAMP OVER PULKOVSKOYE HIGHWAY AT TRAFFIC INTERCHANGE WITH RING ROAD - START OF INSTALLATION

Works have commenced at the ramp over Pulkovskoye Highway of the traffic interchange of M-11 Moscow-St. Petersburg Highway with Saint Petersburg Ring Road to launch steel structures of the superstructure. The total weight of the superstructure is 700 tons. The present stage of work was preceded by construction of pile caps and pier columns.

Launching by definition is an installation method for bridge superstructures. Each assembled span of the superstructure is launched onto piers using winches equipped with a guide pulley. Then, workers proceed with assembly of the following span.

The traffic interchange of M-11 Highway with Saint Petersburg Ring Road is being constructed close to the interchange of Pulkovskoye Highway and will connect all districts of Saint Petersburg via Saint Petersburg Ring Road and the Western High Speed Diameter. The interchange includes 5 ramps: two ramps over the railway, two ramps over Saint Petersburg Ring Road and a ramp over Pulkovskoe Highway. The total length of the ramps is 4.59 km.

The ramps of the interchange have intersections with a number of existing utility lines, including the main gas pipeline and two tracks of Oktyabrskaya Railway of Warsaw Direction. Five ramps are being constructed in parallel, without any vehicle or railway traffic limitation. Twenty four (out of thirty in total) piers of overpasses of the future interchange are currently under construction. The total weight of structural steel of the overpasses’ spans will exceed 2000 tons.
