MOSCOW - ST. PETERSBURG HIGHWAY, SECTIONS 7 AND 8. CONSTRUCTION COMMENCED

Ceremonial start of construction commencement was made in Tosnensky district of Leningrad Region. Sergei Ivanov, the Chief of Staff of the Presidential Executive Office, Maksim Sokolov, the Minister of Transport of the Russian Federation, Aleksandr Drozdenko, the Interim Governor of Leningrad Region, Sergei Kelbakh, the Chairman of the Board of "Russian Highways" State Company, participated in the groundbreaking ceremony.


         In opinion of M. Sokolov, M-11 Highway is the main section of the Europe - Western China transport corridor (8 000 km long).  “This Highway, on top of everything else, will have a great economic effect: each ruble invested in its construction will give five or six rubles as a surplus value - these funds will be used by the regions, which the Highway passes through.” – Mr. Sokolov noted.


         A. Drozdenko believes that a new Highway will encourage business in Leningrad Region:  three new economic areas bordered with the Highway have been already defined.  They will be designed for logistics, transit and storage facilities.


         Sergei Kelbakh, the Chairman of the Board of "Russian Highways" State Company, made a statement that the estimated travel time between two Russian capitals would be 5.5 hours upon the Highway commissioning.


         "Two Capitals Highway" LLC is responsible for implementation of the construction project of  Sections 7 and 8 of Moscow – St. Petersburg Highway (M-11 Highway).  The Highway sections of 138.3 km will pass through Saint Petersburg, Leningrad and Novgorod Regions.  Sections at km 543 - km 684 will be put into operation in the middle of 2018.
